I almost missed this!!! But Kicking Horse Resort is offering a great deal on summer Gondola sightseeing passes. The price is just under $26 dollars plus tax of course for the entire summer.  It is the same price as 1 ride. There are some awesome hikes off the top of the mountain and it is always nice to stop at the Eagle's Eye Restaurant for lunch before heading down. The deadline though for buying this pass is May 31st. Click Here for the link to this. I played my first round of golf this season  recently.   Nice day.  Course is always fun to play.  But the treat, was seeing a mom and 2 cubs running across one of the fairways as we are getting set to tee off.
They let us play through!!!

Bear Spotting, Whitewater Rafting, Cross Country Mountain Biking,Canoeing on the Columbia River, Tandem Paragliding,  and Golf, are all available on the doorsteps of Vagabond Lodge. We have seen bears daily on the road between here and Golden. There must be over a dozen hanging out in the area.   And the whitewater rafting has started  on the Kicking Horse River. .  The Moonraker biking trails are just down the road from us and are fabulous.
Give us a call toll free 1 866 944 2622.  Great time of the year.

Crazy number of bear on the side of the road today between here at Golden.  It is only a 13 km drive but on two trips downtown, I saw a total of 7 bear.  There was a mom and 2 cubs, a mom and 1 cub and then two singles.  And a few days ago, close to the top here at Vagabond Lodge we saw a mom and 3 cubs.  All Black Bears. They should be around for about the next month before they hopefully go up higher.  And then in the fall, they come back down. If you want to see bears, come here and I don't think you will be disappointed. When it starts to get warmer, they usually come out either in early morning and late afternoon to feed.

Incredible day.  Finally spring.  It will probably snow tomorrow.  But I had to go up one last time.  I snowshoed up Race Place which is one of the lower runs here at Kicking Horse and skied down.  It was perfect spring conditions.  Took me awhile.  I would have been probably better off, with skins, but I do not have touring bindings on my skis.  So, snowshoes was the best options.  It was a good workout to say the least.  But worth it.  Fantastic afternoon.

Just thought I would post a song by the Parson Jazz Cooperative.  We (I am the drummer) played next door at Cork's Restaurant a couple weeks ago for one of the final functions of the ski season. The group is made up of some homeowners at the Resort and some Golden area people.  Terry Pittman is the singer and lives at Kicking Horse as does the sax player Richard Barker.  He lives half the year in England and half the year at the resort.  Also in the group is Golden dentist violin player Jeff Dolinsky, his wife Joan on trumpet and piano and Jeremy Dunning on standup base and our part time cellist is Jeff Moss.  Jeremy and Jeff Moss are from the Golden area. We have some fun and play off and on in the Golden area.

This is it for 2012 Ski season. It was a good one. We made a couple runs.  Lots of snow with winter conditions at the top, icy about midway down and then soft snow as you got closer to the bottom. That time of the year. Then a group of us got together for one last drink(or 2)  at the best bar in world; Eagles Eye.  There must have been 40 us us having a few laughs and a beer or two before heading to Vagabond Lodge for our annual Pot Luck windup party with group of friends from Golden and home owners here at the resort.  It was also Byron Tarchuk look alike day.  Byron a homeowner at the resort, is known for his big moustache. First time I have ever kissed a lady with a moustache.
We still haven't heard when Kicking Horse will open for the summer. We have had some indication  it will not open for the public until June 29th and be only open for two months which is very disappointing for businesses here at Kicking Horse.   At one time the Gondola operated from early June until the end of September. I hope the rumours are wrong.  Anyways time to think summer now. Here are some photos from the final day.

This will probably be my last ski movie of the 2012 season.  It was a great one!!  I will no doubt have some summer stuff.  Hope to do more hiking in the area.  We have a  trip booked to Lake O'hara in September for a couple days which should be fabulous.  Enjoy the video.

Okay, ski season is over.  Time to move on. Great easter weekend and we actually had 1 day of spring skiing, enjoying the sunshine. It has been an amazing winter for snow and guests. We went up to the top of the mountain on Friday night for their final Wine Pairing Dinner of the season.  Very nice evening.  View was stunning with the full moon. Great service.   The Eagle's Eye is the resort's show piece. A fabulous spot. And Contrary to all the rumours, I have been assured by Management of RCR, the new owners of the Resort,  The Eagle's Eye will not be changing format in the future.  Good news. Certainly one of my favourite places to go.
The Parson Jazz Cooperative played at Cork's in Copper Horse Lodge(next door to us) for their wrap-up dinner called the Lushmasters.  Great dinner, great atmosphere and they seemed to enjoy the music. (photo below) The resort is closed for the next few days and reopens on Friday, Saturday or Sunday for the bonus weekend. We have decided not to open though to the public.  We are going to be selfish and have the final weekend for ourselves.  But if you are interested in coming next winter, book before April 15th and you will get this years rates.  They are going up for 2013.

It's hard to believe the season is almost over. Especially with all the snow we have.  So every day is a treat.  And yesterday was a big treat, as I went skiing with Son Kori, his fiancée Elaine, nephew Greg and friend Ben. The resort has had about 40cms of fresh snow over the past few days so the conditions are amazing.  We had some fun.

The snow has stopped at least for a couple days.  More coming in the next couple days though. So much for spring skiing.  Just powder, powder and more powder. It has been a great year for snow, no question there.  We had some music at Vagabond Lodge on Sunday.  Parson Jazz Cooperative(I play the drums) entertained our guests and a few friends as a warmup to our gig next door at Corks on Saturday night. It is one of the last special events of the season called Lushmasters Dinner.  Always lots of fun. Here is a song we are working on for Saturday called "Blues in the Night. "
