With all the great snow Kicking Horse has received over the past week, there was plenty of powder to go around. I decided to head up to top of Terminator for a run yesterday and hooked up with a friend from Golden, Ken Schroeder. Not only did we do a great run into Superbowl from the top but we also went up to the Top of Terminator 2 which is the next peak to the south. Some great climbing and some great powder skiing. It doesn't get much better.

I went up yesterday morning for a couple runs with a guest. It just happened to get sunny for a few seconds which was a treat. We went up Stairway to Heaven Chair for a few runs. Very nice although the wind was howling at the top. Photo was a from the top when the skies cleared. Vagabond Lodge has some rooms available this month for some great conditions. It is part of the tenure of Purcell Heli skiing and Rudi Gertsch is the owner of the company and hence..the name Rudi's Bowl. I had skied it a number of years ago with Purcell on a heli skiing trip but it is a a popular spot to go back-country. I mentioned my interest in skinning to the top to a friend Richard Barker who also owns a company called Kicking Horse Powder Tours. He brings skiers from England to the rockies and so he knows this area quite well. A few days ago, I took him up on an invitation to try my back-country skills(limited) and it was fantastic. It was a gruelling work-out but the views and the ski down was well worth the effort. We left the bottom of the Gondola at about 12.30 and got back to the bottom about 4pm. Fabulous day. Richard put together a video of our trip. Nice. |
