Blaeberry Valley Bike Ride
Blaeberry Valley near Golden is one of the many hidden gems in our area. It used to be a little more user friendly about 14 years ago when you could basically drive right to the end of the valley where you could hike to the base of Mummery Glacier. But a number of heavy spring washouts has made it more of a challenge. This is also a very historical area for Canada as it was one of the original fur trading routes through the Rockies. Howse Pass is at the end of the valley and is a continental divide. The waters from this side of the pass flow to the Pacific and the other side flows to the Atlantic. It was declared an National Parks Historical site a number of years ago but the trail has been abandoned by Parks Canada a number of years ago and is overgrown for the most part.
But we were able to take our ebikes for the bulk of the road and then crossed the creeks on foot. We were hoping to get to the Mummery Glacier but ran out of time. We did see it as the video shows. It will have to wait until next year. Fantastic area.
