It doesn't get much better than skiing with family. We had 3 generations on skis last weekend at Vagabond Lodge. Son Shane, wife Tara and our grandson Waylon joined us for a few days. Shane is a hell of a snowboarder and was once on the National Jr. development team as a snowboard racer. We did a trip up to the top of Terminator Peak to find some nice powder.

And then it was our 15 month old grandchild Waylon's turn. He is just loving skiing. Three generations skiing Kicking Horse. Very special.

It was an impromptu meeting at the gondola the other day that reunited some of the members of the Kicking Horse Old Farts Ski team. Usually it is Patrick from Selkirk Sports and lately a friend of Patrick's, Al who have been making a trip up to our favourite haunts T1 and T2. This trip, Dave and Dave who are a couple of locals joined us. After about 14 cms of snow we decided to head up to T1` and found knee deep powder. We had some fun.
After about 4 or 5 days of pretty steady snow it cleared today with some fabulous sunny skies. I hadn't been up to my favourite run T2, since all the snow hit and today was the day. Patrick from Selkirk Sports and his buddy Al joined me to check out it. Video speaks for itself. Sweet.
We got pounded with some awesome snow over the past few days and the skiing has been the best of the year with over 32 cms fresh powder. I went with one of our guests Rod From Australia for some fabulous runs in the knee deep powder. It has stayed pretty cold too(-10C) which means the champagne powder everyone refers to about Kicking Horse. You can just aim your skis down hill and away you go.
Today may be the last sunny day for awhile from the looks of it. After a few days of cold weather(-18C) it is going to warm up with predicted 30 cms of snow in the next two days. Then it will be staying pretty warm from the looks of it with temperatures hovering around the 0c and even higher. Hope not much higher. With the glorious sunny day, a guest from Australia Rod, joined me for a hike to T2. We found some nice soft snow. Always worth the hike.
It has been a great few days at Kicking Horse. We have had about 25 cms of snow in the past few days. Originally the forecast was for 70 cms but that did not happen. The big reason is the temperature. It has stayed pretty cold which means dry snow. Which is the best snow. It snowed pretty well all weekend including last night(Sunday) and that meant the hill was ours this morning. Patrick from Selkirk Sports joined me for a hike to the top of Terminator Peak. It may have been one of the colder hikes we have been on but well worth it.
It looks like more snow off and on for the next week. |
