We had a nice wedding last night here at Vagabond Lodge. Clayton and Laura live in Golden and have been friends of ours for a number of years and held their big event here last night. They chose the evening because of the full moon and held the ceremony outside on our deck. Just 12 people including the Bridge and Groom. Local chef Markus and his wife Emily catered it with Arctic Char and Buffalo Steak as the entrée. Wow was it good. Yes I had to try it of course. Here are a few photos from the evening.

What a day on the slopes. Gorgeous sunny weather and not too warm yet!! Forecast is for highs of about 12C in Golden in the next few days so safe to say it is spring skiing. Conditions are very nice. Still nice and cool up top and not too warm yet...at the bottom. I have been just going up to either T2 or Terminator for a climb. The views are so amazing. I went today with neighbour Bob and we made a run down and then back up to hit the bar at the Eagle's Eye. I think this will be a daily ritual for the rest of the season.
After a day of snow, wind yesterday the skies cleared with nice cold temperatures which made for a sweet day on the slopes. I managed to do two treks with son Kori, partner Elaine and their friend Ben along with Patrick from Selkirk Sports. The first run we made to T2 and then second one to top of Terminator. Both were fabulous. They kept going for another run from top of Terminator. I had enough at that point. It did tempt me though. Enjoy the video. It doesn't get much bett Sunny Skies and New Snow - March 22 2013 from Vagabond Lodge on Vimeo. Another great day at Kicking Horse Resort. The best spot we found was to the top of both T2 and Terminator Ridge. Boot top powder and no one there. It's a case of "Saving the best for last". The last few days have really been some of the best skiing of the season. We have had some nice snow over the past few days, and now the temperatures have dropped too. It was -10C this morning which was one of the cooler mornings we have had all winter. I went up for a couple runs this afternoon and we did the first trip up to T2 and then did Terminator. Both runs we have untracked boot-top powder if not deeper. Yesterday was almost as good. It was snowing off and no and visibility wasn't great but we did two trips up to the top of Terminator where we found great untracked powder. Check out the video. I even found a snow snake which grabbed me and yanked me down. Lots of fun. Terminator Ridge March 21 2013.mp4 from Vagabond Lodge on Vimeo. Some new snow at Kicking Horse. We decided to head up to the top of Terminator to check out the conditions and found some great snow. It was so nice we decided to do it again. I went up for a few runs yesterday and was really surprised how good the conditions were. Temperature had dropped and it was -10C in the morning which is one of the cooler mornings we have had for quite awhile. And it really didn't warm up that much throughout the day. I made a run into Whitewall for the first time this season and there were a few stashs of powder to be found. I am posting a few photos below of Vagabond Lodge. They were taken by a photographer from Salt Lake City, Will Wissman. He stayed with us not long ago on a shoot for National Geographic. I posted the video on earlier blog. He took some awesome photos. One of the top women skiers Lynsey Dyer stayed with us not long ago for a few days on a video shoot. They were doing a tour of the powder highway and she wrote a nice article on her experience at Kicking Horse and her stay with us. Click Here to read the article in National Geographic. Here is the video that the girls were featured in from Kicking Horse. We have had some nice snow in the past few days. The temperatures have dropped and received about 8 cms in the past 24 hours. I went up for a few runs yesterday afternoon and Feuz Bowl was especially nice with some powder stashs to be found. It got a bit slick lower down, but that is expected this time of the year. The Kicking Horse Veteran's Free-Ride Team had a great day at Kicking Horse. We took advantage of some new snow and sunshine and climbed to the top of T2. As you can tell from the video, we had some great laughs besides some great skiing. Kicking Horse Veteran's Free-Ride Team from Vagabond Lodge on Vimeo. If you want to explore Kicking Horse Resort try and hook up with the Kicking Horse Veteran Free-Ride Team. They know all the great spots to ski. And they have some major fun too. Puking Snow from Top to the Bottom at Kicking Horse. NO RAIN. Over 40 cms of snow is being reported at the top of the mountain over the past few days. When the Pineapple Express rolls through you never know what you are getting. Unfortunately it also means some rain at the bottom. And that's what we got yesterday for most of the day at the base. BUT THE RAIN HAS STOPPED AND NOW SNOW. Here is video from Friday when the snow started. Big Snow March 1 2013 from Vagabond Lodge on Vimeo. This video is about Big Snow March 1 2013 It started to snow overnight and we got about 15 cms by the morning. And it is still coming down. Wet stuff at the bottom but I am sure it is pretty sweet at the top. I hope to get up for a run later. First time I have had any significant snow shovelling for awhile. I went up yesterday for a run from Terminator with a couple of our guests Jan and Mark. They are from McCall Idaho and have been here all week. The snow was really nice and still fresh tracks to be found. Not deep snow but 8-10 cms of really light fluffy powder. Lots of fun. Here is my video I took. Skiing Terminator Ridge Feb 26:13 from Vagabond Lodge on Vimeo. I went with a couple guests from Vagabond Lodge to top of Terminator Ridge and we were finding some fresh powder. Great run. Nice dump of snow overnight and for most of the day at Kicking Horse. In some places I found boot top to knee deep powder. It was nice light snow at the top and got heavier as I got closer to the bottom. Later in the evening it was starting to rain at the bottom but I would imagine it is dumping nicely at the top. I had a few good runs with friend Don. Here is video. |
