Woke up to a nice snowfall this morning. Received about 7cm overnight and about 24cm in the past couple days. Weather is still pretty cool...-15 in the morning and it didn't warm up that much during the day..maybe -8C at the top. So the snow is nice and light. And nobody on the hill so a great chance to take advantage of the snow and no crowds. I went up later in the afternoon with a neighbour for a couple of runs and it was great skiing. Visibility wasn't very good for our first run but it started to clear up as the day ended. More snow is predicted in the next few days.

We received ab out 7cm overnight here at Kicking Horse and More is predicted throughout the week. And there is nothing better than new snow on a monday once the crowds are gone. One of our regular guests this winter(his mom and dad are building a house at the resort) is involved in the Kicking Horse Ski Race program and raced yesterday here at Kicking Horse. Here are photos of his race and he finished in 5th spot. Good work Kjell!! Weather is starting to change. Still pretty cold for this area. It has been staying about -15 to -10C for the most part which means it is a little cold for me at least and also means not a lot of new snow. But that is changing dramatically. Weatherman is calling for snow off and on all week and it is snowing tonight here at Vagabond Lodge. Supposed to be about 10cm coming tonight. We had another jazz night here at Vagabond Lodge tonight with about 30 people showing up to hear the Parson Jazz Cooperative play. We are working with a new singer, Terry Pittman and she is doing a great job. Hopefully I will have some video in the next few days.
Certainly one of the coldest days I have skied here this year. Said -18C at top and it felt colder than that. Went for a couple runs in the afternoon. Snow was nice but with colder weather, really sticky. Good bunch of guests....basically all return. Some from Australia and others from Toronto Area. They were heliskiing with Great Canadian and are ranting about the conditions there. We got a little snow overnight...about 7cm which should soften things up nicely. I see where there could be some major snow coming again starting Sunday. That is perfect. Time for me to get back skiing again.I couldn't resist putting this funny clip on my blog. If you need a laugh, and we all do...this will make you laugh. Have a good day. I had to post this on my website. What a great ski video. Best I have ever seen. Wish I would have done this. We have all sorts of people like that here in Golden and Kicking Horse. Love this!!!! It is what it is all about. Stunning day here at Kicking Horse. But having said that, it is also the busiest weekend of the year. Cars parked down our road. Temperatures are around -10C and blue-bird sky's. No way, I am fighting the crowds. So instead I went snowshoeing on a trail I made in the woods not far from Vagabond Lodge. I took Helen the Wonderdog and it was a fabulous walk in the woods. Here are some photos. All sorts of news surrounding Kicking Horse Resort today. First of all the much awaited final approval of the 40 year masterplan finally came through. Click Here for Details. We were told it was a done deal a year ago but for some reason it wasn't signed. But apparently it has been. New lifts, golf course and of course more development will be allowed to happen. 40 years..is a long time. Old story..I will believe it when I see it. Hopefully the Resort will move ahead and replace the Pioneer chair lift with a high speed quad up to Stairway to Heaven. That is supposed to be the first thing done. Also announced is the ski season will be extended this year until April 24th..Easter Weekend. This is because of the great snow here..over 600cm so far this season. The resort will close daily on April 10th and then reopen for the following two weekends. Spring skiing here is always a lot of fun.
I went up for a couple runs today in the afternoon. It is a little cooler than it has been..about -8C so the snow is a little firmer. But still very nice. It looks like it will be a very busy weekend coming up on the hill. No lift lines today yet but I think tomorrow...look out. No skiing for me until at least Sunday. That's fine. Woke up to about another 12 cm of fresh snow. And then a blizzard hit for most of the morning. It was a whiteout for a few hours. And then after lunch the sun came out. Wow. I went up about 2pm for a couple runs. Sweet. Went into Feuz Bowl with some of our clients for a nice runs and then was hoping to go to Superbowl but it was closed. So I just dipped down into Bowl-over and then double header. Snow is just fantastic. Biggest weekend of the year coming up. Alberta Family day. If you don't have a reservation, too bad. Vagabond Lodge caters to a specific clientele. They are all nice people. Funny how that works!! And it doesn't take long for them to become life-long friends who keep coming back for more every year. That is why we enjoy doing what we do. It was a nice change today at Kicking Horse. No lift lines and that is time for me to ski. It was quite windy at the top with poor visibility. But once you got off the top it was fine and the snow was very nice. We received well over 40 cms of new snow in the past few days. The best run I had was into SuperBowl. I questioned myself a few times for going there since I couldn't see anything but it kept most people from going there. And I found out it wasn't open on Sunday. That's why I had about a knee high powder. Very nice. Great bunch of guests including a group who have been coming for years to stay with us. We have 1 room left for the weekend coming up. $295 plus tax(double occupancy). |
