Early Opening is Happening

It has been a crazy couple weeks for weather here at Kicking Horse and Vagabond Lodge. Snow, rain, snow, and more rain. But from the looks of the long range weather forecast the rain has stopped and colder weather is setting in. Nothing serious...but around the 0C mark which is perfect for snow. The top of the mountain got pretty pounded with snow and they already have close to 400 cm. From the top of the catamount chair down the rain washed a lot of the accumulated snow away but with snow making there is enough to have some of the terrain open this coming weekend December 2/3. And there is snow in the forecast off and and on all week. First turns of the season coming up.
Also of note, Eddie the Eagle is coming back to Vagabond Lodge this coming winter. Kicking Horse Powder Tours out of England is bringing him back in March. For more details click Here.
We really enjoyed his stay last winter and he is a class act.

Early Opening??

If you believe rumours, look for an early opening for the winter season here at Kicking Horse. We have been getting a pretty steady snowfall over the past few weeks especially at the top where they have over 200 cms and the snow has started to accumulate at the base too. The resort is scheduled to open on December 8th for the season but we are hearing strong rumours that is could open a couple of weekends only prior. And the date we are hearing is November 25th weekend which would be the earliest ever for the resort.
This video is getting a lot of play. It is one of the outstanding ski videos and worth sharing. It was done in Nelson BC. I have a hard time watching the ski videos for the most part as they are all the same. But this one is very different and very good. Enjoy.

Final Ride was the Best

Wow, wow, wow! What a special treat this was. Spur of the moment on a perfect fall day, we decided to see if we could ride our bikes to Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park. I knew the road had been closed for a couple weeks to motor vehicles but not sure what the state of the road would be. Well it was perfect. Even the Parks Canada people had plowed the road for us. Usually on any given day in the summer this road would see thousands of cars a day. You would not want to ride a bike. But we were the only ones there. Fantastic way to end our bike riding season. We now have a nice dump of snow on the ground around Vagabond Lodge and over 100 cms at the top. We are ready for winter. Bring it on.
