Nice sunny skies this morning. And after a few days of pretty steady snow it was nice to see some sunshine. We received over 30 cms over the past week. Although it was a busy weekend on the hill we managed to find some powder. I went out with some guests from Spain, Paola and Jose along with friends Don and Mitch and made a couple laps in the afternoon into Feuz bowl. Very nice as you can see from the video.

One of the hidden gems around Vagabond Lodge is the little hut on the Nordic Trails. Last night, we decided to have a cheese fondue with some friends and guests at the hut. We snowshoed and cross country skied out our back door for about 20 minutes to the hut. Earlier we had gone out and stocked the fire and it was nice and warm when we got there. There is no electricity or water so it is pretty rustic. But what a great way to spend the evening. Of course we take plenty of white wine. Lori has a great receipt from Leysin Switzerland for cheese fondue from one of our favourite spots there, called Profondaz. About 9.30 we made our way back in the dark to Vagabond. It doesn't get much better. It snowed most of the day yesterday. Just a light snow but still made it really nice. And overnight it kept it up with a heavier snowfall. The resort reported 12 cms overnight. It is a busy weekend at the resort with bus loads rolling in this morning.
Here is short update from yesterday. Light snow this morning at Kicking Horse. They are predicting over 30cms in the next couple days which is just what the doctor ordered. Sun was shining nicely yesterday, and from the sounds of the weather forecast, it could be the last day for a while we will see the sun.We have a great group of guests. Some from England, Australia and Spain. I went into Super Bowl this afternoon for a run and managed find a little of everything. Another 8 cms of new snow overnight. We have had been getting a few cms everyday and the conditions are getting really nice. We went up for nice lunch at the Eagle's Eye and then made a few runs with some guests. Bill and Helen from Australia, and Allan and Gil from England. Really enjoyable and found a few nice stash's of powder to make it even more fun. It looks like we are in for a few more snow storms expected to come through in the next few days. Almost all of our guests for the past few days have stayed with us before. We love that. This seems to be Australia Week with 8 of our guests from down under. Bill and Helen have stayed with us about 6 years in a row and Peter and Julie have been with us about 3 times. Gary and Sharon are here for their 3rd stay and brought some friends Scott and Helen with them. Today was a great day for hanging around the bar in their team uniform. This was after they hit the hot tub and made snow angels. Nice snowfall overnight with about 8-10 cms. And from the sounds of it, there is more coming in the next few days.
A little squall blew through Kicking Horse last night and dumped a couple cms of fresh snow. And this morning the sun came out and it is perfect blue bird sky day. For Valentines day Pavla who helps out at Vagabond Lodge made some heart shaped cookies for desert for lunch. It was all smiles from our guests after the new snow and sunshine and then some great cookies. We have a great group staying with us. We have some regular guests from Australia; Bill and Helen. It is about their 6th year in a row staying with us for the next 2 weeks. We have some more Aussies coming tonight who stay with us every year, Peter and Julie. And then we have a group of Swiss and a group of Germans. All enjoying Kicking Horse. Here are some photos from today. I went for a couple runs in the afternoon. The forecast is for snow on Saturday. Decided to do something a little different yesterday. Beautiful sunny day so I headed out on the Dawn Mountain Cross Country ski trails for the first time this year. They are a gem here at Kicking Horse and on the doorsteps of Vagabond Lodge. They have a variety of loops of every calibre. And it was a perfect day for a ski. Here is a short video of some of the views you come across.
It's cloudy at the base of the Resort and nice gorgeous sunshine at the top of the mountain. We are having a temperature inversion right now with certainly warmer temperatures higher up you go. Snow conditions still really nice. The snowpack is great. I went up in the afternoon and ended up at Church Service. A tradition a group of us started a number of years ago. We end our week with a beer in the Eagle's Eye Restaurant. Closest we will ever get to heaven. Stunning views with people sitting outside on the deck, it was that warm. It was probably one of the quieter weekends on the hill we have had so the snow won't be skied out. We have a group from the Ski Club of Great Britain, Germans, and even some Calgarians over the weekend. This is our busy time here at Vagabond Lodge and space is limited. We do have some rooms available here and there but not a lot. Give us a call to check if you are interested in coming.
If you are not getting snow, you had better have sunshine. And that is what we are getting here for the next few days. Sunshine in the forecast. Today was a great day on the slopes. Mostly nice and clear with sunny skies with still some nice fluffy snow from the latest snowfall a few days ago. Nice!!
