I finally got around to finishing my last ski video for the season. Lake Louise and Sunshine are still open for a few more weeks. I just may have to check Lake Louise out next week. If you have a season's pass for any other resort, you can ski there for free. Great deal. Hope you like last video. It features our son Kori and his fiance Elaine and a few other friends on the final two days of skiing here.

What a day here at Kicking Horse. Finally some spring skiing. Temperatures in the teens, nice snow from all week long. Wow. What a lot of fun including a few beers on the deck of Sushi Kuma beside the Gondola watching the fun. Two more days left. 3 more days of skiing this winter. But I have a few down days until Friday when the ski resort reopens for the Easter Weekend. This is a great time to do some snowshoeing with Helen the Wonderdog. The snow is pretty hard now so you can stay on top. We had a few cms of new snow overnight which really made it a lot of fun to just wander around in the woods near Vagabond Lodge. I went o Winter is still embedded in Kicking Horse. I was shocked by how nice skiing it was yesterday. I am not really a fan of spring skiing. Great to sit outside with a beer in the sun, but for about an hour a day, skiing is usually pretty marginal. But wow. This is not spring skiing. Fresh soft powder. We haven't had a morning like this for awhile. Not a cloud in the sky. Definitely a day for spring skiing. 9 Days left counting today before they shut the lifts for the winter. We had a group of journalists from Quebec for breakfast this morning including Jean-Luc Brassard. Jean-Luc won the Gold Medal for Canada in the 1994 Olympics in free style skiing. He loves the mountain and told me it is his "New" favorite mountain. He will be back. Woke up to a blue-bird sky day. One of the few we have seen all winter with all the snow we have gotten. Kicking Horse received about 20cms over the past few days and with the gorgeous day it doesn't get much better. I just happened to be going up the stairway to heaven chair when they told me they had just opened whitewall. And it was pretty spectacular as you can see from the video. Knee deep powder and what a treat to be able to see where you are going for a change. Pretty quiet on the hill too and that is what it will be like until the end of the season. Woke up to a blizzard again. Snowed heavily until at least noon with about 20cms from yesterday. Usually I don't ski on Saturday because it is always the busiest day of the week. But it wasn't that busy so I went out for a couple runs in the afternoon. Ended up skiing with a couple of younger friends...Scott who is a back-country guide and Richard who skis every day. Of course I had to try and keep up the pace..."not" Had a couple of great runs and found snow up to the knees. Another day in paradise. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! Yes more snow here at Kicking Horse. A really big dump this morning with whiteout conditions until about noon. I would think they have received a good 20cms since yesterday. Guests came in for lunch and were raving about how nice it was. I had a great day yesterday. Sad news at the hill..as a 51 year old skier from Colorado died yesterday from injuries he sustained in a fall in Feuz Bowl. Not much more info as to what he hit. There was some mention of Head Trauma. I can only assume he hit a tree or maybe a rock in one of the chutes maybe. Horrible to hear of this type of thing. When visibility is marginal it doesn't take much to go into an area that is beyond your capability.
Snow Never Stops. The forecast certainly wasn't for anything significant but it started early in the morning and kept coming. Boot top powder in Feuz Bowl and most of the upper slopes I was on. With the warmer weather in the past few days, the bottom part was a little more difficult because of the ice under the new snow. One of my best runs this year was in Feuz bowl with super light powder. Probably about 15cms or so of new snow. |
