It has been a great Christmas at Vagabond. Kicking Horse had a few nice dumps of snow just before the holidays which was great. And for the second year in a row we shut Vagabond down for 3 days over Christmas. We had some great visits with friends who we don't get to visit with once the busy part of the season begins. Colder weather has hit for the past few days -18C. But from the forecast it looks like it is going to start to warm up tomorrow and more snow off and on in the next week.
The video is from December 22nd. A great day with Patrick from Selkirk Sports. We did a climb to the top of T2 and enjoyed some great skiing. We still have some openings for the upcoming season. Give us a call 250 344 2622 or email info@vagabondlodge.ca

A great week on the slopes at Kicking Horse. After about a week of a temperature inversion with warm temperatures and sunny skies at the top and cloudy and cold at the bottom, we got a couple of great dumps of snow with over 40 cms in the last week. And the temperatures have stayed nice and cool(-8C) or so and even cooler so the snow is fabulous. I had a great day with son Kori and his wife Elaine with sunny skies after all the new snow. And then a couple days later I hooked up with one of the locals Ken and we found more fresh snow. It should make for a great Christmas for all the skiers in our area(and snowboarders) . Enjoy the videos. If you are looking for a special winter vacation in the snow, give us a call at Vagabond Lodge at 250 344 2622 or emailinfo@vagabondlodge.ca
Have a good one. ![]()
All sorts of good stuff to talk about. Our first guests of the season have come and gone. We had a group of 8 from one of our wholesalers in Europe called Aeroski. One of their clients was Andreas Wenzel from Leichenstein. Andreas was one of the great alpine skiers in his era and it was a great era. Andreas won an Olympic gold medal and competed in basically all the events. He also was the winner of numerous world cup events. The group headed off after a couple days skiing Kicking Horse to Bobby Burns CMH lodge for a week heli skiing. That's Andreas on the left. Not sure about the guy on the right.
The conditions have been a bit strange for this time of the year. We have been having a temperature inversion with very warm weather at the top(above 0C) and beautiful sunny skies. And as you get closer to the bottom there is a thick fog layer and considerably cooler temperatures. But when you have 4000 ft. vertical it is not uncommon to have such a change but usually we get this later in the winter. Still some nice snow conditions at the top. I have made it up to both Terminator Peak and T2 to start off the year with Patrick from Selkirk Sports. It was a great way to kick off another ski season. With over 400 cms of snow fallen at the top of the mountain the resort had a preview weekend on December 2 and 3rd. I was somewhat sceptical since we had some rain at the bottom area and was wondering how good it would be. Well it was great. I don't think I have seen the bulk of the mountain in such good a shape as it was. Nice soft powder snow and not a rock to be seen until the last little section below Catamount chair. But the resort did a great job of making sure there was enough snow to get to the base. They have limited snow making but with some great summer grooming it was enough. We are taking bookings at Vagabond Lodge for the upcoming ski season. Give us a call at 250 344 2622 or email info@vagabondlodge.ca to book your stay. |
