What a great ending to the season. It was certainly one of the best days with some 20 cms of new snow and in some places with the wind, knee deep powder. If you are wondering about the photo above. My sons Shane(middle) and Kori on the right.
Now a short break and Vagabond Lodge will be open for the summer starting May 30th. We are taking bookings for next ski season. Give us a call 250 344 2622 or email info@vagabondlodge.ca

Kicking Horse Resort has some great terrain. The most challenging you will find. A friend who skis here everyday, has a great expression about skiing Kicking Horse. "You have to earn your turn." So true. The other thing about the resort, is the great terrain just outside the area boundary. You don't have to look very far to find more and more runs. One is called Ozone. It involves going to the top of the Stairway to Heaven chairlift and then about a 30 minute hike. It is all out of bounds so you must have all the avalanche gear. Although I know there are those that go skiing backcountry that don't and that is just stupid.
I went with a friend the other day along with a couple from California who he met on the gondola earlier in the day. It was one of those perfect ski days with fresh snow from a few days prior. And because the slopes are north facing it was still nice and soft. Another friend Richard was also there with his drone doing some video work. We managed to get some great footage. Check it out. Kicking Horse closes for the season on April 12th. We are taking reservations for next season and with the Canadian dollar the lowest it has been for almost a decade it is a great time for coming to Kicking Horse if you are from outside of Canada. I didn't go anywhere to have a great Easter Weekend. Our family came here and we just had a blast skiing/snowboarding Kicking Horse. Some new snow at the top with cooler temperatures. Sunday was especially great as I went out with Kori, Elaine and Shane and skied into Feuz Bowl, then up to T2 and also ended the day skiing T1. All great.
Resort shuts down on Sunday April 12th. So just a few more days until it is over for another winter.
No! Winter is not over yet although with the weather we have been having you would have thought so at times. It has been a strange one to say the least. But if you overlook the bottom part of the hill, there is some great snow at the top. While it has been pouring rain at times at the bottom, from the catamount chair up, it has been snowing heavily. Yesterday for April 1, Richard and Patrick joined me for my daily trek up to the top of T2 and we enjoyed some fabulous conditions. It was blowing heavily so the slope was pretty snow loaded. This time of the year there is a variety of conditions as you make your way down to the bottom. But when you have such a long vertical that is understandable.
We are winding down our season with the scheduled closing date April 12th. The resort had announced a bonus weekend for April 16/17 but I suspect that will be cancelled after the weekend is over. The resort has been doing an amazing job keeping a trail of snow all the way to the bottom and have been pushing snow from all over to keep it skiable but I think they may run out of snow soon. You can still take the catamount chair down as an option but not much of one as it is very slow. But as one season comes to a close we are not that far away from the summer season which begins on May 30th. We are also holding a Yoga Retreat in June.
