I finally saw it. Our guests over the past week or so have been talking about a grizzly bear on the road up from Golden. Almost on every trip up or down to and from Golden you will see at least one bear and up to 6 but I had yet to see the Grizzly. Until yesterday. First I saw a mom and 2 cubs and then 2 deer and then a few seconds later there was the Grizzly. They look pretty fearsome to say the least. With all the snow in the upper elevation yet, all the bears are hanging around pretty low yet. I figure there are at least 9 bears in a 13 km stretch of road between Vagabond Lodge and the bottom of the hill.
I had to go to Golden this morning and on my way down the hill, I saw a total of 6 black bears and about 4 or 5 Elk. What a day for wild-life spotting. There are more bears around than the ones I saw too. I have seen a couple of other singles and friends have seen a mother and 2 cubs. Wow. As long as they stay where they are not come up around Vagabond Lodge. Helen the wonderdog goes crazy with bears around. I am sure some of them will make there way closer in the next couple weeks.
Ken along with his wife Lori are the owners and operators of Vagabond Lodge at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
